Ponta Delgada Joao Paulo II Airport (PDL)
History, Facts and Overview
(Ponta Delgada, Portugal)
Named after Pope John Paul II, Ponta Delgada's Joao Paulo II Airport was sited on the southern coastline of Sao Miguel, to allow easy access for aircraft of all sizes. In the early 1990s, increased passenger levels meant that it was necessary to construct a new terminal building, and this opened soon after in 1995.
Terminal facilities are in good supply and include an outlet of the Banco Totta e Açores bank, moneychanger, ATM and various travel agencies. Retail and duty-free outlets are available and include LFP Travelshopping, the FM bookstore, the Azorean Gift Shop, and the Portuguese souvenir shop of Turismo e Artesanato By Cores.
Although Joao Paulo II Airport does not have any restaurants as such, delicatessens and snack bars offer plenty of eating options, such as the Aerocafé, the Restaurante Hidro Aviao and the Soterlac delicatessen.
Conference facilities can be reserved, while a spacious VIP lounge is also available onsite.
